About Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a healthcare practice primarily focused on neuromusculoskeletal disorders and how problems with the nerves, muscles, soft tissue, and bone impact general health.

Chiropractic care is often used to treat pain in the neck, back, arms, legs, various joints, and headaches.  Posture, balance, gait, sports performance, and general wellness are also enhanced with chiropractic.

How Chiropractic Works

Chiropractors work to improve the alignment of the spine and joints and help the surrounding nerves and soft tissue return to a healthier state. A chiropractic adjustment is performed to dysfunctional and misaligned areas (subluxation) of the spine and joints.

The body’s information highway – your nervous system – is protected by the spine. The nerves travel out between the vertebrae or joints of the spine to carry messages to and from the brain, impacting every area of your body. Physical, emotional, or physiological stress can alter the function of the nerves and the body's ability to heal and properly communicate.  This is why problems with your spine can have far-reaching effects.

What Chiropractors Do

Doctors of Chiropractic – often referred to as chiropractors or chiropractic physicians – practice a non-surgical, primarily hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis, and treatment with chiropractic adjustments and therapies. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional and lifestyle counseling. Chiropractic adjustments rarely cause discomfort. However, patients may sometimes experience mild soreness or aching following treatment (as with some forms of exercise) that usually resolves within 12 to 24 hours.

Patients can expect a thorough clinical examination, laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging, and other diagnostic interventions as needed to determine when chiropractic treatment is appropriate. Our Chiropractors may also work in conjunction with other health care providers to achieve the best results.

The Chiropractic Story

Chiropractic care is rooted in spinal manipulation practices that began in the times of ancient Greece. It has been an established profession since 1895 with the work of Daniel David Palmer (known as D.D. Palmer), the pioneer of Modern Chiropractic. The use of chiropractic has grown and numerous studies have shown that it is a safe and effective health care choice.

Chiropractic is deemed the most established “alternative health” discipline and is the third largest group of primary contact health providers,
following medical physicians and dentists. It is concerned with the preservation and restoration of health, and focuses particular attention on
the subluxation.

A sub-lux-a-tion is a complex of functional and/or pathological articular changes (primarily in the spine) that compromise neural integrity and may influence organ system function and general health.

Chiropractic and General Wellness

Good nutrition, exercise, chiropractic care and other preventative measures are part of a wellness lifestyle. Maintaining your health and the integrity of the nervous system requires an ongoing investment. Those who want to be their very best add chiropractic care to their health
practices. The pleasant result of chiropractic care is often more vitality, endurance and improved performance.
