How Children Benefit from Chiropractic Care
Many parents are seeking chiropractic care for their children because of the understanding that …
“As is the sprout, so grows the tree.”
Many spinal problems seen in adults began as early as birth. Often these nervous system irritants contribute to seemingly unrelated complaints during infancy, childhood and adolescence. This is because the nervous system controls and coordinates the function of all the systems in the body; including the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, hormonal, and immune systems.
Improper spinal and nerve function can contribute to poor communication between the brain, spinal cord and various organs and body systems. Chronic misalignments and the potential underlying pain may also affect mood and behavior.
During infancy, subluxations may contribute to problems such as colic, breathing problems, nursing difficulties, sleep disturbances, allergic reactions and aberrant immune responses. As the infant grows, learning to hold up the head, sit, crawl and walk and later, as the child begins to participate in regular childhood activities like skating or riding a bike, small yet significant spinal misalignments (subluxations) may occur.
From infancy to age two the brain reaches 80-90% of its adult volume and it is said that 90% of the child’s neurological foundation and potential is being formed in early childhood. While the human body is resilient, these rapid periods of early growth and development present the greatest potential to diminish problems and yield best outcomes.
